Start training for a career installing, maintaining, and repairing heating and cooling systems. The HVAC Technician program at North-West College provides practical training designed to prepare students for entry-level roles in the HVAC field.
In about 9 months, you can gain the skills needed to work on HVAC systems in residential and commercial environments.

Heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems are essential to modern homes and businesses. Skilled HVAC technicians help keep indoor environments comfortable and safe.
The HVAC Technician program at North-West College focuses on the technical knowledge and hands-on experience students need to begin working in the field. Training covers installation, servicing, troubleshooting, and repair of HVAC equipment.
Students gain experience working with the core systems used throughout the HVAC industry.
Electrical Systems & HVAC Controls
Learn electrical theory, circuits, wiring, and control systems used in heating and cooling equipment.
Refrigeration Systems
Study refrigeration principles, refrigerant handling, system evacuation, and charging procedures.
Air Conditioning & Heat Pump Systems
Learn how to install and troubleshoot residential and light commercial cooling systems.
Heating Equipment
Gain experience with gas, electric, and oil heating systems including maintenance and repair.
HVAC Duct Systems
Understand airflow, duct design, and load calculations used to optimize system performance.
Commercial Refrigeration
Learn about refrigeration equipment used in commercial applications such as restaurants and grocery stores.
HVAC Troubleshooting
Develop diagnostic skills to identify electrical and mechanical issues in HVAC systems.
Certification Preparation
Students are prepared to take the EPA Section 608 certification exam, which is required to handle refrigerants used in HVAC systems.
HVAC training can open the door to a range of hands-on, in-demand careers in residential, commercial, and industrial settings.
Graduates may pursue roles such as HVAC Technician, working to install, maintain, and repair heating and cooling systems, or HVAC Installer, helping build systems in new homes and buildings. As you gain experience, you can move into more advanced roles like Commercial HVAC Specialist, working on large-scale systems in offices, hospitals, and industrial facilities.
You may also choose to specialize as a Refrigeration Technician, supporting critical systems in grocery stores, restaurants, and warehouses, or transition into HVAC Sales and System Design, helping customers choose and plan the right solutions.
With experience, some professionals even go on to become independent contractors or business owners, creating their own path in a growing industry.
