If you are already or are interested in becoming a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or planning to take certified nursing assistant courses, you might want to consider becoming a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN). On the surface the titles are similar and both play important roles in the health care field. However, there are some differences to note before signing up for a career training program.
The first and most striking difference is in projected annual income. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median annual income for a Certified Nursing Assistant is $27,520 yearly, and the median annual income for a Licensed Vocational Nurse is $45,030.* Additionally, Certified Nursing Assistants will report to an LVN or RN and make fewer decisions in regards to direct patient care. Licensed Vocational Nurses provide direct patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse or a licensed physician.
If becoming an LVN is the right path for you, North-West College can teach you the skills you need to start a rewarding career as a Vocational Nurse working alongside physicians, registered nurses and other health care professionals. The Vocational Nursing program at North-West College provides the hands-on training and education needed to prepare graduates for the National Council Licensure Examination for Licensed Practical/Vocational Nurses (NCLEX-PN/VN) to become a licensed vocational nurse (LVN).
